3 am - An AI Idea, a Deadline, and a $150K Spending Thoughts

Enyx Digital, a Texas-based company building AI-powered business solutions, had a familiar problem. They had an AI product to build and a clock that didn't care about their hiring pipeline.

The traditional route looks like this: post the job, wait, interview, negotiate, wait some more, and then pay over $150,000 a year for someone who spends the first quarter asking where the repo lives. Meanwhile, the market moves on.

Enyx chose a different route. They partnered with Riseup Asia for a remote engineer, and 90 days later they had a working AI MVP.

The Challenge

Enyx needed more than someone who could write Python code or use AI to write code. The project asked for machine learning, a customized large language model (LLM), data handling, and eventually mobile. That's a wide skill set on a short runway, with a US client in Texas and a remote engineer working across time zones.

The engagement had four hurdles:

  1. 1.A live project from day one: There was no gentle onboarding. The engineer started on 6 May 2025 and was placed on a real client project with tight timelines.
  2. 2.Emerging technology: The engineer was strong in Python but had limited prior exposure to machine learning, LLMs, and mobile app development, all central to the product.
  3. 3.Distance: Time zones, cultural differences, and the daily risk of requirements getting lost in translation.
  4. 4.Business context: Enyx didn't need code for its own sake. It needed decisions that fit its users, budget, and roadmap.

The Approach & Solution

Step 1: Start with the right person

Riseup Asia's hiring process uses automation to speed up screening and reduce bias, so the team can evaluate a large applicant pool consistently. The engineer on this project, Joy, was selected from more than 1,000 applicants.

Step 2: Learn fast, in public

Instead of waiting for formal training, Joy spent his first weeks studying the technologies the project depended on: machine learning models, API integrations, and Python automation. He tested ideas in small prototypes and checked them against what the client actually wanted.

Step 3: Make every meeting produce something

To keep technical and non-technical stakeholders aligned, Joy ended every client call with three things:

  • structured requirement notes
  • a visual mind map linking features to client goals
  • a summary message sent to the client for confirmation

The result was less back-and-forth and fewer surprises, which is a polite way of saying nobody had to ask "wait, did we agree to that?"

Step 4: Build in small, testable pieces

Requirements in AI projects change constantly. Joy broke the work into small, testable deliverables and shared quick prototypes for client review. Feedback came early, and changes stayed cheap.

Step 5: Think beyond the ticket

During early reviews, Joy suggested extending the product into mobile. The client approved. That kind of initiative turns a contractor into a partner.

The Result

Delivered a Full AI MVP Within 90 Days

Joy successfully built and delivered an AI-powered Minimum Viable Product (MVP) for Enyx Digital within three months of joining Riseup Asia.

This included:

  • End-to-end development of the MVP's backend structure using Python.
  • Integration of early Machine Learning features to automate key processes.
  • Setting up efficient data scraping and handling systems.
  • Coordinating cross-team communication to ensure seamless delivery.

Achieved Significant Cost Savings for the Client

Hiring a similar engineer directly in the U.S. would have cost Enyx Digital over US$150,000 annually.

Through Riseup Asia's remote staff augmentation model, the client achieved comparable performance and quality at a fraction of the cost, proving the efficiency of offshore hiring done right. This financial efficiency, combined with on-time delivery, strengthened the client's trust and long-term relationship with Riseup Asia.

Elevated Client Satisfaction and Communication

Through consistent communication and structured documentation, Joy established himself as a reliable point of contact for the client. The result was smoother collaboration, reduced back-and-forth clarification, and improved delivery predictability, leading to a clear boost in client satisfaction scores and engagement frequency.

  • Client satisfaction rating improved within the first quarter.
  • Zero communication escalations during project delivery.
  • All deliverables met or exceeded timeline expectations.

His professionalism also reflected positively on Riseup Asia's brand reputation, demonstrating the company's ability to deploy engineers who think beyond code.

Strengthened Riseup Asia's Client Relationships

Joy's success became a proof of concept for Riseup Asia's recruitment and onboarding model. His quick adaptation, initiative, and communication skills showed that the company's selection process focused on problem-solving ability and ownership mindset, which directly translates into client success.

His achievements were later shared internally as an example of:

  • Effective onboarding practices.
  • The value of empowering engineers with direct client exposure early.
  • The importance of combining technical and soft skills for offshore excellence.

Professional Growth and Skill Advancement

By the end of the first project cycle, Joy had not only delivered results but also grown his skill set significantly:

  • Improved expertise in Python automation and AI frameworks.
  • Gained hands-on exposure to Machine Learning pipelines.
  • Learned client communication, requirement analysis, and documentation best practices.
  • Developed confidence to lead discussions and suggest feature enhancements.

What the client says

“Hiring directly in the U.S. would have cost me around $150K. With Riseup Asia LLC, I achieved the same results at a fraction of the cost, and quality skyrocketed.”

Asif Nayem, Enyx Digital (Texas, USA)

What we say

“Out of 1,000 applicants, he stood out through his focus, humility, and speed of learning. Building and publishing an AI MVP in just three months is remarkable.”

Alim Ul Karim, Chief Software Engineer, Riseup Asia LLC

What This Means for Your Team

  1. 1.Speed comes from skipping the hiring queue, not from cutting corners. A remote engineer can start on a live project while a local search is still collecting resumes.
  2. 2.Learning speed beats a perfect resume. The engineer began with limited ML and mobile experience and shipped anyway. In fast-moving fields, the ability to learn quickly often matters more than years of experience.
  3. 3.Communication is a system, not a personality trait. Notes, mind maps, and confirmation messages made distance irrelevant.
  4. 4.Ownership is worth paying for. Suggesting the mobile extension created more value than the original scope.
  5. 5.Cost savings should fund quality, not replace it. The point isn't cheaper for its own sake. It's getting a skilled builder without a six-figure commitment.

Why AI Projects Especially Need the Right People

AI tools can draft code, summarize data, and prototype in minutes. They cannot check their own work, own the outcome, or read what a client really needs. The best AI agents finished only about 1 in 6 real freelance projects at a quality a client would accept.

The Enyx MVP is the practical answer to that finding. AI handled the acceleration, and a skilled human handled the judgment, the client relationship, and the accountability. That is the AI-fast, human-verified approach we help clients build.
